Drain Rock Sizes Explained: 3/8" to 1½"

Drain rock is not one product. The size you choose changes how much water moves and how well it beds around pipe.

3/8 inch

Small and easy to work into tight spaces. Good for pipe bedding, narrow trench drains and planter drainage where bigger rock will not fit.

3/4 inch

The all-rounder and the industry standard for French drains, footing drains and retaining-wall backfill. Strong flow with minimal clogging.

1½ inch

Big voids for high-volume drainage, deep trenches and ground stabilization in wet or heavy-flow areas. When you need water gone fast, go bigger.
